Papi is the example

Just had to share this. Great commercial and why Papi is a good guy. Just a fun loving guy with a lot of talent.

The boys go down to Tampa today and hopefully we will bring that win streak into the double digits!

With the summer classic fast approaching (wow, this season is moving fast) I thought I'd take some time to visit some of the best moments in All Star Game history, and this is probably the greatest of them all. Williams dominating hit off Passeau, as DiMaggio said, "He hit the ball off the roof. It wasn’t a fly ball, it was a line drive that just went straight up and hit the roof on a line. In all my years playing in that park, I never saw another one hit like that.”
Here's to "The Kid" and to all the hero's of that generation. Most players were hero's to kid's then, but Ted was truly A hero in the most real way possible.

And that's how it went in Toronto tonight. Outstanding performance by Clay Buchholz.

Good bye Yankee Stadium... for now.

So the Sox and the legion known as "The Nation" had a great trifecta in The Bronx this week. For us it was a great way to spend the dredges of the middle of the work week, coming home to see the Red Sox thump the Evil Empire two nights in a row.
Ortiz put up a two run blast on Tuesday and then after the game was promptly "questioned" for his showmanship directly after. How does he show his composure?  "That's Papi style. You've seen that before, I just went deep. You want more emotion than that?" He then said he would do the same thing tomorrow. Game two on Wednesday and he did it again in almost the same exact fashion, but minus the fashionable flip and spin before he started his trot around the bases.
Carl Crawford continued his climb with solid hitting with a long shot in game 2 and then Drew with another long ball after him in the second win at Yankee Stadium.
Tonight going into the 7th inning it looked like the Bean Town boys just didn't have the bats going well enough to mount and offensive against the Yanks, but we were all  happily proved wrong when they went down the line scoring 7 runs on 6 hits in the inning. Key hits from Ortiz, Ellsbury, and Mike Cameron were how it went down.
One more run in the 9th and it was in the bag so to say. Josh Beckett pitched a great game with 4 hits, 2 walks and 6 strike outs, helping keep the Yanks from running up the Sox were able to strike. Albers and Wheeler finished it off seeing as Papelbon really wasn't needed by the end of this one.
Great way to start the rest of the week unless of course your living in the empire state.
I really wish I had been at the Cask 'n Flagon tonight, but thank god for MLB.tv.

Keep the Nation loud and proud!

and now for something completely different....

There was a famous pitcher who threw for the Yankees among other teams and he was something of legend. A fish story if you will. That being said, I bring you the great James Augustus "Catfish" Hunter!
This is the way my wife believes he should have dressed on the field and after viewing it and laughing for 5 solid minutes I now tend to agree with her.

It's time to say goodbye....

Ok, so the last 3 months of last year were not exactly picture perfect but when are they. right?
Getting married, started hanging out with some new people, and lost an old friend. I got introduced to a few new bands like Nightwish that I am very grateful to my friend for. I parked all the motorcycles and went into hibernation.

Well, it's spring and I'm still married (sometimes i have no idea how), still really digging those new bands and found a few more, and the bikes are out of storage and have already been getting a workout. More important than all of that, except for my wife, is one other thing. Baseball is here and the Red Sox are here.

No matter if you hate, love, or are totally indifferent to it doesn't matter. It means something different to all of us. For many it's a game they love and have loved for years. Another year to celebrate who you like and show where your allegiance lies. To some its a whole summer of chess on the field. Watching all the moves being made and enjoying all of it on a technical level most don't even notice. To some, like my parents, it's a continually shrinking hope to see their team go all the way once in their life time. After waiting a lifetime sometimes I'm convinced that nothing would mean more to them. To young parents ts the first chance to take their little ones to the ballpark for the first time. To share that hallowed experience between a father and son, mother and daughter, or any other combination you like. To show them that there are still a few things in life that are better when you take your time and that everything doesn't need to move so fast all the time.

To me it's the Red Sox. It has been since I was 10 years old and it will be as long as they are still around. I was raised a Chicago Cubs fan by the previously mentioned parents and was until they won the NL east in 1989 and then subsequently lost to the San Francisco Giants in the NLCS. Also at that time I discovered a player in Boston named Wade Boggs. At the age of about 10 I discovered something else about myself. I don't like losing. I made my mom take me to the store to get a new baseball hat, spent the little bit of money I had (she probably helped too), and bought a Red Sox hat. Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens were my hero's from now on. That all said and now being 20 years older, I do have  a soft spot in my heart for the northsiders and would love nothing more that to see them win one. Not so much for me, but I would love to see the smiles on my parents faces if it happened.

Even if baseball means nothing to you as a sport, it signals the beginning of spring and after being stuck inside during the frigid months up to our eyeballs in snow, that's always a welcome sign. To start seeing baseball players in the newspaper again and if for no other reason than you know it will be warm soon.

Well, I will be spending the summer riding around with my wife, listening to a lot of metal while doing so, and checking the baseball scores on my phone and any radio I can find along the way. It's going to be the best summer Ive ever had and I know that for a fact.
